NACCC recap

Been on the internetless road to Boston since the awards ceremony that crowned Ottawa at the NACCC polo tourny.  The Paul Bunyans (Myself and fellow Minnesotans Tony and Jake as well as a couple subs) lost our first two games of the round robin on Saturday but won the next four, unknowingly setting ourselves up for a quick departure on Sunday.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot of NYC (Doug, Adam and Chombo) danced all over us and then a team from Colombia Missouri (I think) trampled the Bunyans.  Minneapolis’ scene only recently started up with a couple of experienced players helping the legions of new’uns.

I’ve got about 9 hours of footage from the weekend, including some very solid stuff of the finals and other big games.  If you would like the footage from games you/your team was in, please email me at gus@legitbikepolo.com with your name, team name, and a picture of yourself if possible (difficult to remember 100 people’s names in 2 days: faces are easy).  Martin from Vancouver has already contacted me, and I’ll get to requests as quick as I can.  I could make DVD’s and ship’em to you, youtube the footage and link you, etc, however is easiest.

I’m now in Boston and am hoping to make it to Los Marcos Madness next month.

Finished up play with my mpls Paul Bunyans, the one and only Minnesota team attending.  Started the day out 0-2, slaughtered one game and super close in the other.  Then won 4 games straight.  Hopefully 4-2′ll be enough to get us a good seed for tomorrow (today was a big round robin to determine placement tomorrow).  Filmed about 2′n a half hours of delicious action.

I compiled some footage from the 2007 Los Marcos Mayhem tournament.  It has all been on youtube for a while, but in separate clips and under the Nascarfan421 username.  Footage is of gameplay in the final game as well as an earlier match between NYC’s Heat Lightning (Doug, Paul and Zach) and Ottawa’s Brass Ballers (Alexis, Angelo and Johnny).

Just thought I’d post up a couple of my favorite polo videos from youtube.

The best introductory video on polo out there, covering rules and the community etc…

Solid gameplay footage from a tournament in NYC’s pit set to some great music.

Fox news coverage of DC’s scene.

Filming at the NACCC

I’m heading down to the North American Cycle Courier Championships to win the main race and bring pride and glory to all City Express couriers.  Just Kidding.

I’m actually going down to play and film polo.  According to Brendt from the Bike Film Festival, they’re looking for a quality in-depth polo film for next year’s showings.  The NACCC may well be the best event to follow for such a film (besides the recently passed Toronto world tournament), and I’d love to make something happen there.  I’ve got a rough outline of what I think fits the criteria.

I’d like to follow four (or more/less) teams from around the country/Canada through the tournament, finding out their stories/backgrounds and their thoughts after each match in quick interviews.  The rules of the game would be covered as well as some general background info, but the emphasis would be on how the game is evolving around the country/world and where it’s going, told entirely by players.

What would you like to see (or not see) in a film about bike polo?

I think the best film out there right now is Sunday School.

North End Knockout video

I stitched together some footage from the final game of the North End Knockout tournament this last winter in Boston. I’ll be adding similar videos as time goes by in an effort to get more polo gameplay onto the internet, especially when the level of play is high. It was shot with a basic digital camera so it’s hard to keep track of the little ball at times.

Names and date fixed.  Thanks to Doug for pointing out the error.
