These beauties from Velocity USA showed up the other day.  To whom will they be awarded… I know not.  I say if anyone manages to taco both their wheels in one crash, they get’em hands down.

For all those in the throes of passion over that Volume frame, burn this man’s image onto your retinas.  He is the gatekeeper of first place at the ESPI 4 tournament.  If you do manage to somehow get past him on some sick breakaway, you’ll have to then deal with Nick, and finally me, because I’ll probablybe sitting in the goal blocking all your shots on my team’s way up the tournament ladder.

Big Hole Removable Wheelcovers

Making up a bunch of wheelcovers for the Boston crew due, experimentin’ with the design, and shamelessly throwing legit all over it.  I’ve been using a front wheelcover with a similar design to this one (except with smaller holes) since the NACCCs in Chicago last year, and I’ll be darned if it hasn’t saved me from untold inconvenience and hassle.

Covers are attached with two mini bungee cords that you weave through the holes and then secure by puncturing the cover with the hook on each end.  Wheel stays on, covers fold up, and then you’ve got two bungees to strap your mallets to your top tube with.

Why???  Because it allows me to commute to and from bike polo without constantly fighting the wind.  Strong enough winds could render my front wheelcover equipped bike virtually unridable, and I’d much rather spend the 2 minutes at the court attaching a cover than struggle in the wind for 20 minutes each way.

Latest compilation of on-court bike polo footage, this time from the sweet asphalt of The Pit in NYC.  Mostly I found frames within the footage that made for semi-interesting photos, then let’em play for a couple of seconds to show … what happens after photographs I guess.

Tragedy Strikes!

It was a beautiful day here in Boston and I was concerned that the tennis players that have recently been deterred by coldness and rain would be back at it on my favorite after-work polo practice court.  However, when the park came into view, I realized that something great was no more.  No warning (except the huge Caterpillar machinery I saw this morning on the way to work…), no nothin, and in the blink of a 9 hour work day what I so dearly loved is now lost (until they lay new asphalt).

I thought all was truly lost until I cocked my head and noticed a giant empty parking lot on my right.

Cambridge Bicycle here in Boston is giving you a reason to practice all day.  every day.  until the ESPI 4 begins.  These are steel track frames by VOLUME - all beefed up with some clear BMX construction influence.  This frame will be handed over to the winning team on Sunday, who can then choose what size and color they want for the other 2 frames.

Los Marcos Wheelcover

From Los Marcostan comes … this epic wheelcover.  I would type more but my ring and pinkey finger on my left hand is seizing up for some odd reaons which is making it very difficult to type.  You’d think my braking fingers would be feeling the hurt if anything after hitting the ball around forever today, but … ok typing this is extremely uncomfortable…

Played a great many hours of polo here in Boston on Sunday.  Shot more video from the end of my mallet of the “down low and up close” variety.  The sun was low in the sky whilst I recorded the play, making for some great glare’d out frames.  All photos below are individual frames from the footage, which was shot on a Flip Mino HD.

Adam in New York

Polo photos + Photoshop = …  pictures of Adam it seems.  If you want to talk about the parallels between polo and hockey, Adam’s your man.  If you don’t take well to criticism on the court, Adam’s not your man.

The Pit NYC

New York has a damned sweet court, somewhat appropriately named The Pit.  Maybe if they sunk the whole thing down 100 ft and daylight only hit the asphalt at high noon it’d be a real pit, but alas… whatever.  I think a  lot of visitors and even few of the regulars ever look up when they’re there.  The whole court is surrounded by these great towering trees that have probably been there since the whole place was built.
