Hey all bike polo’ers,

I have let this site lay dormant for over a year now and I am not currently making, selling, or otherwise distributing mallets or other physical polo goods. Rather, I have dedicated the majority of my free time to photography and related educational pursuits. Daily photos with commentary at www.gustavhoiland.com

The following are links to PDF files containing collections of photos from recent bike polo tournaments. View them in your browser or download for keeps!

Shot a couple games’ worth of footage today with the camera just about scraping the ground, all rigged up to a mallet.  Haven’t seen any polo footage quite like it before.  Expect to see a compilation thrown on youtube (and posted here) in the coming days.

I talked to the Northeastern University Cycling club tonight about coming out to play this Sunday in Allston (See “Play in Boston” page).  I emailed some officers on the BU team, and will be contacting the MIT, Harvard, and BC teams soon (what clubs have I missed?).  To any prospective players who don’t know what to think, please watch Sunday School on youtube (below).  It’s the most well done bit on polo that I’ve seen – 10 minutes long, should give you a good sense of what polo is.

Email me at gus@legitbikepolo.com with any questions, and check out the current chatter/updates from players at http://bostonfixed.us/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=23&page=56#Item_10 This thread on bostonfixed.us/forum/ is where most polo communication takes place.

Team Bike Polo Spring Break Woooo took 3rd place at Pensacola’s wonderful week of bike polo tournament.  Boston native Javier and myself teamed up with Milwuakee’s Kremin and opened a bag of hurt on the beach polo courts.  Big ups to Ryan and AB’n the rest of the gang for all their hospitality and great polo spirit.

Shot a couple hours of gameplay/general footage to be thrown into something good later.  Photos from the event will be uploaded to flickr throughout the week with tags like “pensacola bike polo spring break tournament” etc…

new (to me) frame etc

Oh bike forums and their sweet deals.  Jamis Sputnik frame is the only notable new/used addition.  Most everything else was stripped from my old Scott mountain bike.  I have not yet polo’d atop it, and it’s already in the mail to Pensacola.

Big batch of good stuff for the up and coming Irvine CA crew.  Big enough to wipe out my stockpile of pipe and poles actually.  Time to source more!

New Video – Extreme Bike Mounting

I threw a little something together for Bike Shorts 8, which is likely screening as I write.  It’s a compliation of crashes from the NACCC’s in Chicago from last summer, played at one fifth speed and in reverse.  The audio is the original recording from the camera, also slowed down to 20% and played backwards.

Two working titles: Extreme Bike Mounting or NACCC Crashes

12 top notch mallets for the Tallahassee crew.  They claim to be bringing a force to Pensacola.  I reckon ya’ll best watch out.

Legit will be taking a bit of a holiday break over the next few weeks.  In the mean time, check bikepolo.ca’s thread about the formation of the Hardcourt Bike Polo Federation, spearheaded by Montana Norvell.  If you haven’t been cruising around the tournament circuit you may not have caught wind of this potential governing body of the sport.  Check the thread out.  it’s the future, man.  And sign up on bikepolo.ca if you’re a player looking to get in on the discussion!
